At the turn of the 20th century photography sought to imitate art. At the turn of the 21st century a new vista opened up, whereby digital photography could be used to create an aesthetic art form. I discovered this potential for myself by chance as I was trying to obtain a good representative photograph of a painting. I soon realised that by some manipulations derivative images could be achieved that are interesting, and even striking, in their own right.
