A word about watercolour painting...

For many years now summer has come around and the habit has been for me to reach for my watercolour paints. The impetus has been getting outside and sketching and colouring, whether it be for studies or the drawing for its own sake.

This dynamic changed, however, last September when I finally conceded that I could not - for the timebeing at least - devote the time required to oil painting with a very young son about. And so it was the relative immediacy of the medium of watercolour which attracted me coinciding with an increasing interest in the medium and its possibilities.

What you can see here, therefore, in this first of what I hope will be many watercolour galleries, is the result of a more focused and determined approach to watercolour painting. And the pictures I have selected here give a flavour of my direction I hope.

I'll just finish on a note about the subject matter. While my main focus has been landscape, and in particular the Alhambra and castles and watchtowers of Granada and Jaen (more on this later), there are also human figurative works as well. And it is these two avenues of interest that I hope to explore further in the next stage of my journey.
